Grand Prix de Paris run possible for Treasure

AIDAN O’Brien’s Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach may have his next start in the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp.

Seville, his stable companion who chased him home at the Curragh, is also a possible for the same Group One.

Treasure Beach won the Chester Vase in May, beating Nathaniel in the process, and was then caught on the line by Pour Moi in the Epsom Derby before winning the Irish equivalent.

O’Brien’s wife, Anne-Marie, tweeted: “Treasure Beach could possibly go to the Grand Prix de Paris with Seville in Longchamp in two weeks time.”

Zoffany, the horse who has finished closer to Frankel than any other this season, suffered another narrow defeat in the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly on Sunday and could return to France for his next race.

“Zoffany ran very well when just touched off in the Prix Jean Prat. He is likely to go to the Maurice de Gheest in Deauville next,” she added.

Meanwhile Sole Power, Edward Lynam’s top-class sprinter, could take in a Listed race at Tipperary before his bid for back-to-back victories in the Nunthorpe at York on August 19.

The four-year-old was beaten into fifth in Tipperary’s Abergwaun Stakes last year but went on to cause a 100-1 shock in the Nunthorpe.

He proved that to be no fluke by winning the Temple Stakes at Haydock earlier this season, and was not disgraced when finishing eighth in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot.

“Everything is good with him. He’s just having a little break and we’re still aiming him towards the Nunthorpe,” said County Meath-based Lynam.

“There’s a chance he could run at Tipperary a couple of weeks beforehand.

“He did that last year and we might just do it again if we feel we need to get the freshness off him, but we’ll see.

“The ground at Ascot was probably beautiful for most horses, but he would definitely have liked it a bit quicker.

“Having said that, from where he was drawn (stall two), I don’t think it would have mattered what the ground was like. For some reason, for the first few days at Ascot you needed to be high.”
