Siren’s Song on course for Epsom

LAUGHING Lashes put Newmarket behind her in the Irish 1000 Guineas last Sunday and it was nice to see the Moyglare form franked, with the first three in that race finishing first, second and third at the Curragh last weekend.

Siren’s Song on course for Epsom

The rain came at just the right time for Laughing Lashes because she needs further than a mile and her next race is going to be the Irish Oaks. She’s a very relaxed filly and she was staying on well. With regard to getting a mile and a half, there might be a question mark with her sire Mr Greeley but she’s out of Adventure, an Unbridled Song mare and they stayed. A lot of it tends to be how they relax in their races though and she doesn’t use herself too much early in races, which helps her come home as well as she always does.

The Epsom Oaks is next Friday and Siren’s Song is ready to run her race. She’s in great form and I’m very happy with her. She doesn’t take a lot of training. She’s a lovely filly and I just hope the inexperience won’t get to her. She will settle in there around mid-division and see what happens after that.

Blue Bunting, who won the Newmarket Guineas is favourite for Godolphin and then Aidan O’Brien’s Wonder of Wonders is next in the betting. She finished behind Siren’s Song at Leoparstown in March. Aidan also has Misty for Me and Michael Stoute has Havant but there are plenty who could win this Classic. Siren’s Song will travel over on Wednesday. I will make the trip Friday morning and return in the evening, hopefully having seen my filly run a big race. And I will tell you all about it next Saturday.

We’ve had a good week again and while a few horses ran badly, most of them performed up to scratch. I was delighted with Law Rebel, Seader and Rear View who were all second although Kate wasn’t ecstatic as, with Clouded Thoughts second yesterday week, it meant that she had ridden three seconds in five days.

Last Sunday we had an across-the-cards double, when Bob Le Beau won the handicap off top weight in the Curragh and Fuschia Belle recovered from a mistake at the last to get up by a neck in a Limerick maiden hurdle.

Shane Foley rode Bob Le Beau a little differently this time and it worked a treat. He dropped in and was nearer last than first in the initial part of the race before gradually weaving his way through to win very easily. The handicapper gave him seven pounds for that so the plan of going to Ascot for a handicap is gone out the window. We have a new one though, and that’s to go for the Melbourne Cup. He’ll be rated high enough to get in but to qualify he must either win a Listed race or be placed in a group race over a mile and a half so that’s what we’ll try to do.

Today, Feng Su and Giving Orders go at Navan. Feng Su has had two runs in maidens. We’ll take our time a little bit with him this time and hopefully he’ll finish well.

I really fancied Giving Orders to go close in the handicap at The Curragh last Saturday but everything went wrong in the race. When it started to rain, she couldn’t seem to find her feet and was slipping and sliding around the place. It’s a redemption mission but if she can put that bad run behind her, she must be in with a good chance.

On Sunday, we have Greenbelt Star in the flat handicap at Leopardstown. He’s had a win over hurdles and just been a bit unlucky on the flat so hopefully he’ll win that. It’s Freezing was beaten two short heads the last time so it would be nice if he could shed his maiden tag now. While Greenbelt Star is my one for the weekend, I must also mention Magical Memoir, who runs in the Tipperary Water Hurdle at Ballinrobe on Monday evening. She ran brilliantly when second to Street Entertainer at Punchestown, staying on really well and she must be in with a very good chance of going close.
