Versatile Leblon set to follow up
A game and consistent timber-topper, particularly on a sound surface, the selection has done really well over jumps for John O’Shea, having been campaigned on the level by David Wachman.
At Clonmel last month she returned from a break to record her first ever success on the flat in an extended two mile maiden.
O’Shea believed she would need the outing and Leblon went of an unconsidered 16-1 shot. The five-year-old, however, stripped in good shape to outbattle Greenbelt Star and score by a head.
The form received a timely boost when Greenbelt Star strolled to victory in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown on Wednesday night.
The frustrating Resolute Bay might be worth a final chance in the Heart Of Down Maiden Hurdle. He is now fitted with blinkers, after finishing third behind Laffan Island and Raggletagglegypsy at Sligo. Raggletagglegypsy went to on to score at Kilbeggan a week ago.
At Wexford tonight David Wachman’s Hadrian’s Waltz gets the nod in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Maiden.
This is a weak contest and she is down in class, having finished a creditable fifth behind Gemstone in a Listed event at the Curragh in October.
John Oxx’s Alayir will probably go off favourite for the Barrow Race, on the basis of his second to Smartcity at Dundalk.
But he has essentially been disappointing and perhaps Noble Call, fifth to Notable Graduate at Tipperary, might prove a better proposition.
