Madden back with a winner
Salesin, which is trained by Madden’s father and namesake for J P McManus, is a course specialist at the south-eastern track, where he has now won on the flat, over fences and hurdles.
The delighted winning trainer enthused, “It’s great for Niall to come back with a winner. This horse is not straight-forward but he’s been a great money-spinner and we’ll mix it with him, hurdles and fences, for the summer.”
Salesin, a 16/1 shot, was just one of the shock winners on a card which saw only one favourite oblige, the Philip Rothwell-trained May Mystique which belatedly opened her account over hurdles when making all under Declan Bates in the opening Ingard Point Maiden Hurdle.
Mouse Morris is enjoying a successful run and struck again with the Andrew McNamara ridden Bailey Rock in the Black Point Beginners Chase, the winner’s cause being helped by the exit of Meritorious, which unshipped David Casey, when tracking the leaders, at the second last. Mouse described the winner as “a fun horse for the summer”
Colm Murphy will consider aiming The Hard Hat at a long-distance handicap chase at the Punchestown Festival following his gutsy win, at the expense of Warhead, in the Broomhill Point Handicap Chase. Murphy paid tribute to the strong handling of Robert ‘Puppy’ Power on the improving Beneficial gelding.
Meanwhile, Fran Berry was in double form at Dundalk, scoring on Giving Orders in the fillies maiden and former Jim Bolger inmate Stephen’s Green, now trained by Jim Ryan, in the Dundalk Stadium On Facebook Handicap.
Giving Orders “could be a listed” filly according to her owner Johnny Harrington.
