Charm pursues Fairyhouse riches

ARTHUR MOORE’S Cheltenham Festival winner What A Charm is set to next run in the www.thetote.com Handicap Hurdle at the Fairyhouse Easter meeting on April 26.

Charm pursues Fairyhouse riches

The four-year-old was involved in one of the best finishes of the week in the Cotswolds, coming out on top by a neck from Kumbeshwar in the Fred Winter to give rider Paul Townend a first Cheltenham success.

The form has quickly worked out with the Alan King-trained Kumbeshwar giving Triumph Hurdle hero Zarkandar a race at Aintree last week.

Moore said: “The plan is to go for the big handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse. Hopefully she will get in as there will be a maximum field of only 16 runners.

“We will try to do Punchestown as well.

“She doesn’t have a mark yet in Ireland, and maybe that run by Kumbeshwar at Aintree was a form boost we could have done without.

“We will have to see what the handicapper does.”

Meanwhile Aintree winner Nacarat could be set for an intriguing clash with Kauto Star in the Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup on May 4.

Tom George’s dashing grey put up a tremendous performance in the totesport Bowl on Merseyside last week, jumping exquisitely at the head of affairs throughout.

The trainer believes his charge may be even more effective going right-handed and trip to Ireland is now under serious consideration.

“It’s a Grade One race with prize-money to match and it could be that he is one step better going right-handed on better ground,” said George.

“We always thought he was best going right-handed and Paddy (Brennan) has mentioned that in the past.

“At Aintree, he showed everything that he has always promised to do when he gets his favoured ground.

“The better ground brings out the best in him. He loves jumping off it and he is much happier.

“He has come out of the race unbelievably well. He never even blew much.

“As it is, we have a month to see how he is and that is about the length of time he likes between his races.

“I know him well and he is a horse that I can get fresh quite quickly and easily at home – he is not a horse that takes a lot of work, so we can keep him happy.

“We would not run him on soft but if it were good or good to soft and if he is in good form, we would have to think very seriously about going over there.”
