Barrow Island ready to score for Halford
The indications are that Halford’s charges may be well forward, considering his Defining Year scored at the opening meeting of the campaign at the Curragh on Sunday.
In any case the son of Chevalier ran some solid races last season, particularly his second to Triumph Hurdle runner-up Unaccompanied at the Galway festival.
The selection rounded off his three-year-old days with another decent effort, third behind Aidan O’Brien’s Ancient Kingdom at Cork in October.
Barrow Island has been fortunate to be given the best draw in one and should at least go close.
Aidan O’Brien’s horses ran really well at the Curragh, he also had a winner, and his President Lincoln can do the business in the Race And Stay Package Median Auction Maiden. He is clearly no star, but did show some promise in two outings last season.
President Lincoln’s second outing saw him finish fourth behind John Oxx’s Dubawi Star on this track in November. Prominent for most of the journey, he faded badly in the closing stages and the fitting of blinkers now should help.
The dundalkstadium.com Handicap may be best left to Mark Johnson's Old English, a winner at Lingfield a week ago.
