Morning can reign supreme for in-form duo
The six-year-old was a really good sort over hurdles, finishing last season with a highly creditable eight lengths second to For Bill in a Grade 3 at the Fairyhouse Easter meeting.
She reappeared over fences at Thurles in November and was probably a very unlucky loser. Morning Supreme tried to make all of the running and seemed to have plenty left when falling at the third last, leaving eventual winner, The Hurl, clear.
Even in her days over flights, the selection’s jumping was far from foot-perfect and that’s an obvious worry. It’s a risk worth taking, however, in this class.
The McCarthy Insurance Group Hurdle is best left to Sublimity, although his remote fourth of four behind Solwhit at Punchestown in the Morgiana Hurdle was less than encouraging.
His previous respectable third to Solwhit and Donnas Palm in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown last January, however, gives him an obvious chance and Sublimity will certainly be suited by two miles on this flat track.
Robert Tyner’s Newcastle Blaze is the choice in the McCarthy Insurance Group Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.
She was travelling along merrily in front at Cork in December, until falling four out. That contest went to one of her principal rivals now, Mountain Heather, who went up 9lbs for scoring by eight lengths.
Duc de Savoie and High Chaparral, two useful horses on the flat, make their debuts over jumps in the Student Raceday March 31 Maiden Hurdle.
The market should be informative, with the nod falling on Duc de Savoie, who comes from the in-form Dermot Weld yard.
