Down in class Dgab the one to beat
Tony Martin’s lightly-raced seven-year-old is on the upgrade and this looks a very suitable assignment. His latest appearance saw him contest a Grade 2 at Navan in November, when producing a career-best effort to date.
Gift Of Dgab was beaten four and a half lengths into second by Fully Funded and, though the form isn’t overly exciting, this does represent a fair drop in class.
Dropping down four furlongs in trip is hardly ideal, but connections will be well aware of that and plenty of use will surely be made of the selection!
Michael Hourigan has exercised lots of patience with Crash and can have his reward in the Bobbyjo Bistro Maiden Hurdle.
Successful in his only point-to-point, Crash then created a good impression when cruising to victory in a bumper on this track back in February.
At Tramore today, Jimmy Mangan’s Thyestes Chase hero, Whinstone Boy, is the fancy in the Holden Plant Rentals Chase.
He has a bit to find on ratings with some of his rivals, but is a more solid proposition and a run over flights at Clonmel in November will have blown away the cobwebs.
Bostons Gift, a creditable half a length second behind Loup Du Sabouas at Naas, is the one to beat in the S E Construction (Kent) Ltd Beginners Chase.
At Naas tomorrow, Cadspeed gets the nap in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Novice Chase. He proved most frustrating over flights, until finally getting his act together, but should have a decent future at this game. He made a promising start at Clonmel before Christmas. Cadspeed set a powerful gallop, in testing conditions, before eventually giving best to a smart horse in Torphichen.
Paul Townend partners Bishopsfurze, in preference to Gagewell Flyer, and the hint has to be taken in the Grade 2 Slaney Hurdle.
He won a modest contest with a lot in hand at Cork and was an especially decent horse in bumpers last season.
