Dilshaan set to land prize

NOEL MEADE, languishing in ninth place behind Gordon Elliott in the trainers’ championship, can edge up the list a little with Dilshaan’s Prize in the Rover Maiden Hurdle at Listowel today.

Dilshaan set to land prize

The six-year-old, who showed on the flat that he likes cut in the surface, has been rested since making his debut over jumps at Sligo in May.

On fast ground, he performed with real promise to finish ten lengths second behind the smart Ballyadam Brook.

The selection travelled and jumped well that day, until wilting in the closing stages against an opponent who has gone from strength to strength in the meantime and was in receipt of 8lbs.

Arthur Moore can enjoy a rare two-year-old winner by saddling Gentleman Duke to land the Jet O’Carroll Memorial Median Auction Maiden.

He has already shown a liking for an ease in the ground, running a cracker at Sligo when half a length second behind Deorai.

Feature event is the Listowel Races Supp.Club Lartigue Handicap Hurdle and the hopeful nod here falls on Doctor Dejay. He will be having a first outing since the Punchestown festival in April, but you’d imagine Willie Mullins will have him reasonably straight for this nice prize.

At Punchestown, Doctor Deejay was beaten four lengths by Gimli’s Rock and is now allowed a generous 10lbs for that.

Eagle Canyon was disappointing at Leopardstown, but is given another chance in the Listowel Arms Hotel EBF Maiden.

He tried to make all then, but faded to finish a poor third behind Dermot Weld’s A Word Apart and stable companion, Long Live The King. Perhaps more restraint will now be exercised!
