Gem can sparkle
The daughter of Sadler’s Wells was useful last season, but there are solid reasons for thinking she may have improved significantly from three to four.
That is the conclusion to be drawn from her decent effort in a handicap at Leopardstown in May, when producing a career-best performance.
Always travelling sweetly, Precious Gem lengthened in fine style in the straight to beat Maximo (rec. 20lbs) by a length and three parts.
There are no stamina doubts, that was run over a mile and a half, which is more than can be said for most of her rivals.
The John Coleman-trained Sean Og Coulston should prove hard to beat in the Special Olympics Games Families Party Handicap.
He is most progressive and on a hat-tick here. The selection was raised 14lbs for scoring by three lengths at Down Royal in May and that looked harsh enough.
Nothing, however, could have been further from the truth and the selection bolted in at Fairyhouse on Wednesday evening.
He reappears now under a mandatory 5lbs penalty and has obvious prospects of doing the business again. Sean Og Coulston goes up 14lbs in future handicaps.
Charlie Swan’s Cloone Rocket can land the concluding Peter Clohessy’s Bar And Sin Bin Nightclub Race.
The contest didn’t quite pan out as he would have liked when third to to False Economy and Caesar’s Song at Listowel and the eight-year-old can now be fancied to build on that.
