Long Lashes ready for Moyglare test

CONNECTIONS of Long Lashes are optimistic she will handle the expected testing conditions in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

Long Lashes ready for Moyglare test

The Rock Hard Ten filly joined the Godolphin operation from Jessica Harrington’s Irish stable following her debut success at the County Kildare track in June.

Long Lashes showed she had effortlessly adapted to her new surroundings when lifting the Group Three Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket three weeks ago.

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: “The ground is very soft out there.

“She won on soft before so we don’t think it should inconvenience her, although obviously there is a risk attached to it.”

Kevin Prendergast is upbeat about the prospects of Termagant, winner of her only start when accounting for Aidan O’Brien’s well-regarded Cabaret, and the more experienced Wrong Answer.

“We are expecting both of them to run well,” said the Friarstown trainer.

“The going is very testing and I think Wrong Answer will have the better chance in the ground. She’s handled it before.

“The other one is a good-ground filly but we are going to let her take her chance.

“If she handles the conditions she will go very well.”

O’Brien is double-handed with 1000 Guineas ante-post favourite Lillie Langtry and Famous, while Jim Bolger runs Gile Na Greine and Gold Bubbles in the seven-strong field.

Meanwhile, Ger Lyons believes Beat Surrender will not give in so easily when he drops back in trip for the Go And Go Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh tomorrow.

The Bertolini colt faded into eighth place in the Group Three Acomb Stakes over seven furlongs at York last week, after being prominent until the closing stages.

Beat Surrender had made a winning debut over six furlongs at Naas in early July and now reverts to that distance.

“He’s definitely a five/six-furlong horse and he really appreciates the dig in the ground,” said the County Meath trainer.

“We don’t think he’s up to Group Three standard, but we think he could be Listed standard.

“The idea was to drop him in at York, but he bounced out real professionally and they went a real good gallop.

“He was on the pace and got tired in the last furlong. He doesn’t get seven furlongs.

“I would say the winner at York (Elusive Pimpernel) is very good.

“My horse has come out of it in good shape.”

Famous Warrior is dropping down two furlongs following his victory in a Killarney nursery earlier this month.

“He won his last two starts, and is coming back a couple of furlongs, but he’s won at this trip,” said trainer Kevin Prendergast.

“The ground is testing and that will make it a test of stamina rather than a test of speed.”

Ger Lyons is delighted the Danehill Dancer Tipperary Stakes has been rearranged for Dundalk today.

Lyons saddles Invincible Vibes, who won his only start to date on the same Polytrack surface in July.

The Listed affair was a victim of Tipperary’s meeting having been abandoned earlier this week.

“I’m just delighted it’s gone to Dundalk,” said Lyons.

“They’ll get a bit of solid ground up there. He beat a nice horse of Paul Deegan’s (Dream Deer) when he won his maiden and the form looks rock solid.

“If you have a five-furlong horse in Ireland there’s nowhere to go with them, so this race is ideal for him.

“Whether he’s good enough or not we’ll know tomorrow.”

Rahya Cass and Capulet Monteque give trainer Tommy Stack two good chances.

Fozzy Stack, the trainer’s son and assistant, said: “They are in good form. Capulet Monteque will appreciate the trip and the better ground – she’s in good form.

“Rahya Cass needs good ground and we’re happy enough with both of them.”
