O’Brien jnr gets off the mark at second attempt

HINDU Kush landed the featured Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Memorial Saval Beg Stakes for Dandy Nicholls at Leopardstown last night.

But it was young Joseph O’Brien, son of Aidan, who earned most of the plaudits as he registered his first win in the saddle, on board well-backed 7/4 favourite Johann Zofanny in the Kilmacud Handicap.

O’Brien (16), a fifth year student in Rockwell College, was having only his second ride in public, having tasted competitive action for the first time at the Curragh on Sunday.
