Walsh out for a month after having spleen removed

RUBY WALSH faces between three and four weeks on the sidelines, following a fall off Pride Of Dulcote over hurdles at Cheltenham on Saturday.

On the exact same day a year earlier, he dislocated his shoulder at the meeting and, remarkably, history was to repeat itself.

Pride Of Dulcote contested a long distance handicap at Prestbury Park and was cruising going to the second last.

He crashed out at the flight, however, sending Walsh spinning to the turf. Speaking yesterday, Walsh’s sister and agent, Jennifer, said: “Ruby had his spleen removed at Cheltenham on Saturday night.

“We understand the operation was similar to having your appendix out. He was very lucky in that the race was at 3.10 and he was heading to surgery at 7.10.

“He was back out of surgery at 8.50. He is in very good form and had a good night. If you are young, fit, healthy and lean then than that is a big help in your recovery and he ticks all those boxes.

“He will be out for three to four weeks and hopes to be back for Master Minded in the Tingle Creek (Sandown). Ruby will remain in hospital in Cheltenham for a couple of days.”
