Further rain forces Tralee to pull plug again

FURTHER heavy showers through the course of yesterday left Tralee with no choice but to pull the plug on racing both today and tomorrow.

Further rain forces Tralee to pull plug again

Tuesday and Wednesday had already fallen victim to the weather and it remains to be seen if the meeting scheduled for Saturday at Tralee can go ahead.

That Saturday card will be subject to a 3pm inspection on Friday afternoon.

Horse Racing Ireland yesterday, however, gave the green light for Tralee to stage racing on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

They had already decided that racing would go ahead on Monday and Tuesday anyway, while Wednesday’s card will consist of a combination of contests from Thursday and Friday of this week.

The revised programme of races for next Wednesday’s meeting is as follows - first race 4.25pm.

* The Irish Stallions Farms E .B.F. Median Auction M’dn (From Friday)

* The Irish Stallion Farms E .B.F. Premier Nursery (From Friday)

* The Kerryman Ruby Stakes (Listed) (From Friday)

* The Bernard Dillon Memorial H’cap (From Thursday)

* The Denny Havasnack Q.R. Race (From Thursday)

* The Denny Gold Medal H’cap Chase (Grade C) (From Thursday)

* The Irish Stallion Farms E .B.F. Novice Hurdle (From Thursday)

* The Meadowlands Hotel Beginners Chase (From Thursday)

The above races revert back to entries at weights stage and fresh declarations to run must be made by 10am on Tuesday 26 th August.

Kilbeggan tomorrow night has also suffered from the elements, with the chase track unraceable.

As a result the two chases on the programme have been abandoned and one of the hurdle races will be divided to make a six-race card.

Meanwhile, Cork are more than hopeful of racing on Sunday with manager, Michael O’Neill, reporting: “At the moment we do not have any worries.”

O’Neill said Cork could have raced yesterday and that the ground is currently yielding to soft.

He did warn, however, that a heavy band of rain is forecast for Friday night-Saturday morning and that could yet pose a problem.
