Aqaleem ruled out for season

LAST year’s Derby third Aqaleem has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Trainer Marcus Tregoning hoped to bring him back in the autumn, with the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as the ultimate goal, after a slight setback earlier in the campaign.

But further problems have put paid to that plan and stumps have now been drawn on this campaign.

“He has suffered more training problems since the lameness of last year so I’m afraid that he won’t be out this season,” said Tregoning.

“The plan was always an autumn campaign in the hope that he might be good enough to run in the Arc, whereas now we are going to have to wait until next year.”

Meanwhile, lain de Royer-Dupre has warned his two star fillies, Darjina and Sabana Perdida, may not line-up in tomorrow’s Prix Rothschild at Deauville if the ground is too soft.

Darjina had to miss her intended engagement in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket last month because of the rain-softened ground and has not been seen since finishing a close second to Haradasun in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.
