Fahey sights set on Mile spoils
The former carries his trainer’s main hopes of success after he finished a respectable eighth behind his stable companion Flying Clarets in the John Smith’s Cup at York earlier this month.
“He ran OK in the John Smith’s Cup. It was a bit too soft for him and maybe he didn’t quite get home.
“The ground will be perfect and he’s got a good draw (17). That’s a big thing round Galway, you need a decent draw.”
Fahey had planned to run Bolodenka in the Tote Placepot Races 1 to 6 Maiden Hurdle but switched the six-year-old to the 160,000 feature when he was balloted out of the opener.
“We planned to run him in the hurdle race but he didn’t get in I’m afraid so this is the second choice,” he went on. He’s fit and very well but whether he can be competitive in a decent handicap we’ll find out tomorrow. Freddie (Tylicki) takes 7lb off and that will help. It’s a tough race.”
