Thiazi set to get off the mark
Tony Martin’s Thiazi is the nap choice in the Tim Kelly Electrical Maiden Hurdle. The five-year-old is certainly far from a world-beater, but should be capable of at least going close at this level.
He ran easily his best race to date when runner-up at Kilbeggan last month. Thiazi travelled well for the most part, but could never get in a real blow at the winner, Kalellshan.
That horse was a big order in the market, 5-4 to 4-6, and had a comfortable three lengths to spare at the line.
Thiazi stuck to his task in pleasing enough style, however, and could squeeze through against the likes of Happy Reunion and Khazar, who will both arrive in reasonable shape.
Jessica Harrington’s Papadopoli gets the nod in a wide-open looking Yolanda O’Gorman Memorial Maiden over 12 furlong.
She is no star either, but has been showing steady improvement. The selection’s latest effort saw her finish eight lengths second behind Perhelion at Bellewstown, with the subsequent Wexford winner, Hold Me Love, behind in fifth place.
Jimmy Lambe’s Auenschutze could be the solution to the J J Burke Subaru Maiden Hurdle.
He proved no match for Jewel Of The West at Bellewstown, beaten five and a half lengths, but his conqueror then is a smart sort and there is nothing of that caliber in this field.
Arondo, who made all to score unchallenged by nine lengths at Wexford, gets the nod to defy a 9lbs hike in the weights in the Michael McLoughlin Pharmacies Handicap Hurdle.
