Negus one to note

THE ex-German horse Negus can land the Summer Festival July Hurdle at Tipperary this evening.

Negus one to note

Formerly a useful sort on the level in his native country, he made a promising start over flights at the Punchestown Festival and then hit the target at Kilbeggan six days ago.

A strong order at 5-4 in the morning, Edward O’Grady’s inmate eventually went off at 4-6. He cruised to victory, scoring by an unflattering three lengths from Our Refusal. This is far more competitive, but Negus looked a very smart summer horse in the making at Kilbeggan and gets the nap.

Hopefully, there will be sufficient cut in the ground for Bantry Commons to line up in the Bumper and if he does then will prove hard to beat.

He was a bit disappointing when only fourth to Bob Lingo at Punchestown, but that still seems to give him the edge against this opposition.

Tommy Stack’s Liberty Bridge, who finished strongly when a close third behind Mutqan on his debut at Gowran Park, could be the answer to the Knockanglass Stables Maiden.

At Wexford tonight Tony Mullins can enjoy a welcome chnage of luck with Decoy Daddy in the Crown Bar and Mange Tous Restaurant Hurdle.

The six-year-old is gradually coming back to his best and is down in class, following a creditable fourth behind Northern Alliance in a well contested handicap hurdle at Killarney.

Eddie Lynam’s Mont Izu has obvious claims in the Gerry Flood Landscape Maiden, even if he is a horse who appears to have had his problems.

Unraced as a juvenile, he only ran twice last season, but made a good reappearance when a length second to Theocritus at Leopardstown. Those still behind late into the night could do worse than side with Jigalo in the New Ross Handicap.
