Walsh expected back for Christmas
Walsh sustained the injury following a crashing fall from the ill-fated Willyanwoody in the Club 16-24 Novices’ Chase at Prestbury Park.
But his sister and agent Jennifer Walsh has confirmed there are no complications with the injury and he expects to be back in the saddle in around four to five weeks.
“He went to see his surgeon this morning,” said Walsh yesterday. “He read the X-rays again and he was happy with what he saw and he will be back for Christmas. It is straightforward and there have been no complications.”
Like many jump jockeys, Walsh has suffered a number of serious injuries, the worst of which was a broken leg sustained in 1999 at Pardubice in Czechoslovakia, a course he was visiting in order to compete in the famous Great Pardubice Steeplechase.
He later broke the same leg while schooling a horse and was out of action for a total of five months that season, but recovered in time to partner Papillon to win his first Grand National.
Walsh has also fractured his wrist twice, dislocated one hip and fractured the other, cracked his elbow, dislocated his shoulder and suffered badly bruised vertebrae.
