Invader’s experience to carry the day
That was over flights at Kilbeggan in June, when scrambling to victory over stable companion, Bothar Na.
One almost resolved then that he would never carry the burden again, but everything is relative and Willie Mullins’ gelding is once more the nap choice in the Go Racing In Kildare Beginners Chase at Punchestown today. A long way short of being a star, his big plus now is experience and that counts for a lot in this type of contest.
Indeed, Irish Invader produced one of his better performances at Listowel last time when a creditable third behind Show Blessed and Druids Castle.
Badgerlaw, a winner twice over flights of late, is possibly a much better long-term prospect than the selection, but this is his first outing over fences.
Blazing Sky, impressive winner of the race a year ago, should be hard to beat in the Listed Total Event Rental Mares Hurdle.
She isn’t entirely consistent, but will make short work of this opposition, if putting her best foot forward.
The seven-year-old rounded off last season at the Punchestown Festival in April when slipping on the bend turning into the straight, she was in front at the time, before finishing third to Grangeclare Lark and Shuil Aris.
Rindoon, thrown in at the deep end on his debut over fences, can some through the Grade 3 Visa International Asia Pacific Novice Chase with flying colours.
A decent hurdler, this was always his game and Rindoon has reportedly schooled really well in preparation for what is a tough introduction.
Jered, well regarded by Noel Meade, gets the nod in the Punchestown Event Centre Maiden Hurdle, a contest which is certain to produce more than it’s share of winners.
