Domestic Fund can go one better

DOMESTIC FUND, a costly failure at Galway, can redress the balance in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden at Leopardstown to morrow.

Dermot Weld’s colt was a strong favourite at Ballybrit, a contest which attracted in excess of €468,000 in wagers with the bookmakers.

He tried to make all, but was mugged close home and beaten a head by Aidan O’Brien’s Lucifer Sam. A further length away in third was well-regarded Houston Dynimo and those placings can be confirmed.

The Listed Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Hurry Harriet Stakes has been reschduled from Thursday’s postponed meeting at Gowran Park and affords the dropped-in-class Timarwa a good opportunity.

The three-year-old’s latest two efforts saw her tackling Group 1 company and she performed well. Timarwa was fourth to Peeping Fawn in the Pretty Polly and filled the same position behind Peeping Fawn in the Irish Oaks, both races at the Curragh.

Fracas, although he has never won beyond ten furlongs, gets the nod in the mile and a half Group 3 Ballyroan Stakes.

He comes here in good shape, fresh from two victories at headquarters, and shapes as if this trip shouldn’t be a problem.

Haatef, easily the best horse at the weights, can land the Group 3 Desmond Stakes. He hasn’t quite fulfilled hopes of being a possible classic horse, but, like Fracas, is on a hat-trick.

At Tramore this evening, Dessie Hughes’ Mine’sasmallone gets the nap in the concluding mile and six Maiden.

His creditable second behind in-form Eight Up in a competitive Galway handicap last time represents a career-best effort on the part of Hughes’ charge.

Willie Mullins’ Dani California, particularly if there is no marked deterioration in the surface, is very much the one they all have to beat in the R McDonald and Sons Handicap. She showed her true colours when bolting in by six lengths on this track on Thursday night and a 5lbs penalty is unlikely to be enough to stop her.

Silk Dress has a minimum of 23lbs in hand of her rivals in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Maiden, but her last two efforts have been miles short of that rating.

Preference is for Posh Lady, who is a whopping two stone wrong with Silk Dress. At least, though, she seems to be improving, having finished a close fourth to Dorset Square at Killarney on her latest appearance.
