FRACAS can lead his rivals a merry dance in the Group 3 Meld Stakes at Leopardstown tonight.

Fracas can lead rivals a merry dance

David Wachman’s colt has been rested since taking a Listed event at the Curragh in early June, but will surely strip fit and well for this test.

The surface on that occasion was quick, but the selection handled it in style, making all the running to beat Trinity College and Arch Rebel, both oppose again, with plenty to spare.

Fracas has shown in the past he is at his best when there is plenty of cut in the ground and will have conditions to suit now.

Only four are set to face the starter in the other Group 3 on the programme, the Tyros Stakes, but it is a fascinating little contest all the same.

The nod falls on Jim Bolger’s highly-regarded once-raced New Approach. He is certainly bred to be a champion, being by Galileo out of Park Express.

New Approach made a very good start at the Curragh on Oaks day. Always prominent, he found plenty when asked by Kevin Manning to beat Lucifer Sam by two lengths.

Bolger sees him as a National Stakes horse, that’s a Group 1, and he has to get the vote to make it two from two.

The Listed Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Sweet Mimosa Stakes is extremely tricky, with the nod falling on Kevin Prendergast’s Evening Time.

Unbeaten in two races as a juvenile, when she revelled in heavy ground, Evening Time was a strong order to make a winning reappearance at the Curragh 13 days ago.

She travelled well through the contest, but was eventually found wanting and faded into third behind Redstone Dancer and Hard Rock City.

The daughter of Keltos can only come on for that much-needed outing and dropping down a furlong in trip may also help.

Blackberry Boy, bogged down on the atrocious ground, but far from disgraced, when runner-up to Princess Nala at Roscommon, could provide the solution to the G.T. Phelan Handicap.
