Head Waiter serves uph tasty result for punters
Head Waiter was on offer as high as 20-1, which really was an astonishing price about a horse who was still bang in contention when falling two out at Cork previously.
Paddy Flood gave him a very positive drive and kicked hard early in the straight. Although Bothar Na was closing on the leader near the finish, he was never going to make the concession of 19lbs.
“I fancied him mad”, admitted O’Sullivan. “He’s a lovely little horse, who is improving all the time. He will go for something at Galway now, over a trip.”
Care And Share, on his debut over fences, was best for money in the Cellar One @ The Ross Beginners Chase and he landed the wagers.
Left in front when Bawn Og departed at the third last, Christy Roche’s charge made the rest, holding on for dear life to beat Rock ‘n Laura.
Said Roche: “He knew his job, having done his time at Enda Bolger’s. Don’t ask me where he will go next.”
Bold Bibi won the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Handicap by a head, but it was no indication whatsoever of her superiority.
She shot away under Rory Cleary well over two furlongs out and quickly had this in safe keeping.
But Cleary then asked her to do absolutely nothing through the last hundred yards and Our Jaffa, it’s a moot point as to whether the pilot knew what was happening or not, closed her right down.
Michael Halford’s charge went up 13lbs for her previous success at Leopardstown and it will be well worth noting the handicapper’s reaction to this latest victory.
Dorset Square, third earlier in the week in a handicap behind El Cerro and Sonnium, redeemed the promise of that effort when taking the Kirbys’ Brogue Inn 30th Year In The Kingdom Maiden.
Dorset Square got the best of a tough battle with On The Net and Davenport Democrat and then survived a stewards’ inquiry.
The winner certainly hung in close home, hampering Davenport Democrat, but there was never going to be an alteration to the placings.
It was a third success for 17-year-old rider, Ben Curtis. He is with winning trainer, John Murphy, and comes from Nottingham.
Curtis, however, was found guilty of careless riding and suspended for four days, while Rory Cleary, who partnered Posh Lady, was done for careless riding as well and he also got four days.
Curtis went on to land a double with a very competent display on the John Joe Walsh-trained Sara Cara in the KWD Recycling Handicap.
He kept her well balanced all the way up the straight, forcing the daughter of Dilshaan past market-leader, Desert Rat, inside the furlong pole.
“She stays well and got a good ride from the lad”, said Walsh. “Another handicap will be next and it might be at Galway.”
The Curtis brace came to a tasty 111.5-1.
Paul Carberry rode his first winner since returning from injury aboard Newton Bridge in the Ladbrokes’ Handicap Chase.
Trained by Gordon Elliott, he got into the contest as first reserve and came home best to grab the lead near the line in a race in which less than a length covered the first four.
Super Daisy and Nadine Ford came home best of all to easily take the Christy Lucey Transport Ladies Bumper.
Description, the mount of Nina Carberry and winner of a point-to-point, was all the rage in the market but never promised to get in a blow.
Finally handicapper, Noel O’Brien, confirmed that Conna Castle, following his impressive success here on Tuesday night, will not be penalised for the Galway Plate.
