Irish Invader can finally get it right

IRISH INVADER, arguably just about the most frustrating National Hunt horse in training right now, gets the nap to land the T and V Novice Hurdle at Kilbeggan tonight.

The six-year-old has a way of finding at least one too good for him and this is definitely his final chance as far as this scribbler is concerned.

He found two miles all too short at Wexford last time when a well beaten second behind Dreamy Gent.

Previously, over two and a half at Killarney, Irish Invader looked all over a winner facing up to the final flight, but was outbattled on the flat and beaten a short head by Ballycullen Boy.

Clearly then he’s not for the faint-hearted, but everything is relative and there is no denying his prospects in this three-miler and in this company.

Willie Mullins trains Irish Invader and his Taipan’s Way, another mildly frustrating sort, gets the vote in the Bumper.

He failed to justify favouritism when outpointed by I Hear A Symphony at Limerick and was also market-leader at Roscommon on his latest appearance.

This time, however, the selection only managed to complete six furlongs, before clipping heels and unseating his pilot. This is a weak race and a good opportunity.

As long as the surface remains on the good side, Coin Man is the one to beat in the Carroll Cuisine Premium Ham Beginners Chase.

He performed solidly when runner-up to Corrieann here last month and will be much better suited to stepping up another five furlongs in trip.
