Queally looks to Newcastle with Eile
The prospect of firm ground has persuaded the County Waterford trainer not to risk the seven-year-old in the Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Savel Beg Stakes.
“Everything’s OK with him but the ground will be firm up there plus the fact Fran Berry, who rides him on the Flat, is suspended as well,” said Queally.
“I left him in the race in case there was a good ease in the ground, but there won’t be.”
Al Eile is now set to be Queally’s first ever runner at Newcastle should he line up for the valuable staying handicap on June 30 “He’ll go straight for the Northumberland Plate. It’s a tough one to win, but it would be a nice one to win. That’s always been the target,” Queally continued.
“I’ve never had a runner at Newcastle. I was there with an intended runner years ago but the meeting was abandoned.”
Al Eile returned to his best on his latest start when winning the Aintree Hurdle for the second time in three years last month.
“It was great to get him back at Aintree. He’d been wrong all year,” added Queally.
