Newmarket beckons for Quito — twice
The veteran of 109 races will go first for the Group Three Igloos Bentinck Stakes over six furlongs on Friday followed hopefully by the Group Two VC Bet Challenge Stakes the following afternoon.
“He’ll run on Friday and he’ll run again on Saturday if he comes out of that race all right,” said trainer David Chapman.
“We are running out of options for him. Obviously if he runs badly the first time he won’t run a second time, but otherwise he’ll take his chance.
“I’m very pleased with him. I was doubtful about him last time he ran. He wasn’t his usually perky self but he’s bounced back now, so he’ll take his chance.
Quito disappointed at Goodwood on his latest start, but Chapman is convinced the nine-year-old does not like the Sussex track.
“Goodwood has been a lucky course for me but it doesn’t suit him,” he went on.
“I don’t think he likes being led round the course the wrong way. A lot of horses don’t.
“He loves Newmarket, he’s won twice there.”
Quito has posted 20 wins, including seven at Listed level, and netted almost £500,000 in prize money. He was also a narrow runner-up to Reverence in the Group One Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock last month.
