David Pipe sends out first runners
Pipe had to appear before the licensing committee on Shaftesbury Avenue in London for them to consider his application to take over from his father and 15-times champion, Martin, who announced his retirement on April 29.
HRA public relations officer Paul Struthers said: “David has been issued with a combined licence, which is not temporary, which runs until January 31, 2007.”
Pipe will have to complete two training courses before his licence runs out next year.
Struthers continued: “He has been informed that between now and the end of January he will have to complete modules two and three, although he has been told that if wants to ask for an exemption from module two he can.
“Module two covers business and three is staff and employment but he completed module one, which covers racehorse care and management, a while ago.”
Standin Obligation will have the honour of being Pipe’s first runner in official charge of Pond House Stables when he makes his debut over fences in the Persimmon Homes Novices’ Chase at Kelso.
Pipe will also send out Iris Bleu, Escompteur and Wee Dinns at the Scottish track and he will have three runners at Exeter’s evening meeting.
Pipe will be able to call on the services of Timmy Murphy, who is back in action at Kelso after being sidelined with a swollen wrist since Saturday.
Murphy sustained the injury in a fall from Classified at Haydock.
