THE stewards at Punchestown yesterday received a report from clerk of the scales, Andrew McKeever, that Davy Russell, rider of Quazar in the Tattersalls-Pat Taaffe Handicap Chase, made two attempts to weigh out, firstly with banned stirrup irons, which were painted silver, and then at the second attempt he had no tailpiece attached to his body protector.

Russell suspended for seven days

stewards found Russell was in breach of the rules and instructions regarding body protectors, saddles and stirrup irons.

They also found he had attempted to mislead the clerk of the scales when questioned about his protector. He was suspended for seven racedays.
