Murtagh booked for Necklace

JOHNNY MURTAGH has been booked to ride Necklace in the UltimateBet.com 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday by trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Murtagh replaces the suspended Jamie Spencer on the filly, who won the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh last September.

Murtagh, who is based in England this season, expressed his delight on hearing the news.

“She’s a lovely filly and I am delighted to get the ride. I’m looking forward to the race,” he said.

Meanwhile, One Cool Cat has been cut to 2-1 favourite for Saturday’s UltimateBet.com 2000 Guineas by Coral after further support yesterday.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was a top-priced 9-4 with the firm but they now go the same price as William Hill and Ladbrokes.

Azamour’s trainer John Oxx has been encouraged by the good to firm going reports from Newmarket this week.

“We are happy enough with him at the moment and if he continues to be in good form for the next few days he will travel,” he said.

“We are watching the weather forecast and ground reports very carefully. We would not run if it was going to be soft.
