Kris Kin likely to run in Irish Derby

IT’S D-Day for Vodafone Epsom Derby hero Kris Kin when he will need to be supplemented if he is to run in the Irish equivalent next Sunday.

Kris Kin likely to run in Irish Derby

It looks increasingly likely that he will take his chance.

Bruce Raymond, spokesman for Kris Kin’s owner Saeed Suhail, said yesterday:

“We will have to see what Michael (Stoute) says tomorrow, but it seems likely the horse will run.

“I would be surprised if he doesn’t. You would expect him to improve. He has not had a lot of racing and he has beaten them all apart from the French horse (Dalakhani).”

Champion jockey Kieren Fallon will be able to team up with Kris Kin again, even though he picked up a one-day suspension at Royal Ascot that would have ruled him out of the Irish Classic on June 29.

Fallon was told by the Jockey Club that it would look favourably on any request to have the day deferred, and he said: “Kris Kin is in good form and he looks a picture.

“It looks one of the best Irish Derbys, and although Alamshar and Dalakhani will improve, so will Kris Kin and I am looking forward to riding him if he does get the go-ahead.”

Meanwhile, Vespone comfortably held the late charge of the Neville Callaghan-trained Magistretti to win the Group 1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp yesterday.

The Nicolas Clement-trained colt, winner of the Prix Jean Prat on his latest start, was certainly in no mood to hang around under Christophe Lemaire and led the 11-runner field at a good clip from the off.

Dante winner Magistretti flashed home late for Christophe Soumillon but was never going to peg back the impressive winner.

Look Honey also finished well to take third, but Frankie Dettori's mount Lateen Sails failed to pick up as expected in the straight, having stalked the winner from the off, and could finish only fourth.

Aidan O'Brien's pair Alberto Giacometti and Spartacus, and Sir Michael Stoute's Illustrator, never got in a blow.

Earlier, Frankie Dettori gave the improving Doyen a confident ride to take the Group 3 event.

The Andre Fabre-trained son of Sadler's Wells was held up at the back of the four-runner field for a long way by Dettori before he picked up nicely when asked to quicken in the straight.

He soon collared long-time leader Mosogno and only had to be pushed out under hands and heels to run out an impressive winner from the previously unbeaten Policy Maker.

German raider Lucky Strike just held the flying finish of Millennium Force to take the Group 3 Prix de la Porte Maillot.

The Petong horse made every post a winning one but the Mick Channon-trained runner-up was closing with every stride under Chris Catlin, having been last of the seven runners for most of the seven-furlong contest.

In Milan, Godolphin’s Leadership upset Clive Brittain’s Warrsan as the two British-trained runners dominated the Group One Gran Premio di Milano.

Richard Hills took up the running on Leadership after a furlong and, despite Warrsan’s attempts to get on terms under Philip Robinson, the Godolphin runner was always calling the shots and won cosily.

The victory enabled Hills to complete a Group-race double following an earlier success on Aynthia.

Hills steered the Sheikh Mohammed-owned filly to a gutsy win in the Group Three Premio Mario Incisa.

The Henri-Alex Pantall-trained runner led after two furlongs and looked to be heading for an easy victory at one point.

However, John Dunlop’s Discreet Brief (Robinson) finished strongly once she had found her stride and there was only a head in it at the line.

The pair were three lengths clear of Vale Mantovani.

Mark Wallace’s Clifden (John Egan) ran out an easy winner of the Group Three Premio Primi Passi on the same card.

Kieren Fallon ended a busy week in style when thrilling a hugh crowd with a brilliant four-timer on Fairlie, Clever Clogs, Island Light and Summer Shades at Pontefract.
