Gripping stuff in opener

DERMOT WELD and Pat Smullen, who combined to win three races at Leopardstown on Saturday night, can team up again to take the Irish Stallion Farms' EBF Fillies Maiden with Gripping at Roscommon this evening.

Gripping stuff in opener

The daughter of Green Desert has filled third place in all her races so far, the latest coming at Tipperary last month.

She was beaten by Always A Star and Shinko Dancer and the form is ordinary, considering the latter could only manage second again behind Bye By Ben at Bellewstown five days ago.

What sways one towards Gripping, however, is that she has never run beyond five furlongs and stepping up to seven now may be just what is needed.

Paul Nolan's Dix Villez gets the nod in the two and a half mile Bank Of Ireland Novice Hurdle.

Reportedly set for a career over fences sooner rather than later, his handler has decided to give him another chance at gaining a victory over flights.

Dix Villez has been largely disappointing, promising a lot more than was ever delivered, but may be best caught fresh and on some decent ground.

Michael Grassick could do with a turn and, perhaps, Time Discloes All will give him just that in the Lecarrow Handicap.

The five-year-old performed solidly when a close fourth of 18 behind Rathgowney Lad at the Curragh in May and a repeat performance would probably be good enough!
