THE John Oxx bandwagon can roll relentlessly on at Tralee today, where he has prospects of a double with Afreen and Kossu.

Longer trip looks sure to suit the promising Afreen

The once-raced Afreen can provide the answer to the Meadowlands Hotel Maiden. The daughter of Entrepreneur made an eye-catching debut over nine furlongs at Fairyhouse earlier in the month.

She never promised to take a hand in the finish, but was noted doing her best work at the end when fourth behind stable companion, and heavily backed market leader, Kassna. The selection now steps up two furlongs in trip and that can only work in her favour!

Kossu is a less confident choice in the opening seven furlongs EBF Maiden. He ran his best race to date when beaten half a length by Tony Mullins’ Dolmur at Gowran Park.

There are several dangers, among them Foolish Thought and Just Hitched in particular, but Kossu is blinkered for the first time and that may bring about significant improvement.

Feature event is the Guiness Gold Cup and Bob What, winner of the race three years ago, when doing us a tasty favour, could be the answer again.

He was set to score on the flat at Tramore, until parting company with Timmy Houlihan with over two furlongs to go.

Paddy Mullins’ tough eight-year-old bounced back in great shape here on Tuesday, however, to defy top weight in a valuable handicap hurdle.

Noel Meade’s Compostello looks the one to beat in the concluding Smirnoff Maiden Hurdle and gets the nap.

He is dropped in class, having run a cracker on his reappearance when a close third to Anno Jubilo and Royal Destiny at Roscommon last week.
