Shumaal to have light campaign

CLIVE BRITTAIN plans to give Irish Derby fifth Bahar Shumaal an easy time for the rest of the season before bringing him back with a four-year-old campaign in mind.

The Dubai Millennium colt headed to Ireland on the back of an impressive win at Sandown, and finished just over 10 lengths behind the victorious Hurricane Run on his first crack at Pattern company.

“He came back from Ireland and he had a problem with one of his feet. Ted Durcan said the horse was never letting himself go during the race,” said Brittain.

“His problem has been treated and we will now just bring him along and he will have another couple of runs this year, but his main forte will be as a four-year-old.

“He is crying out to be a four-year-old and hopefully we will have a Group One horse for next year.”

Peter Chapple-Hyam has elected to take an orthodox route to the Ladbrokes St Leger with Mr Vegas and will run the colt in a Group race as his Doncaster prep.

Mr Vegas, winner of the Bahrain Trophy on his latest outing at the Newmarket July meeting, is to tackle either the Daily Telegraph Great Voltigeur Stakes at York or the Stan James Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury en route to the final Classic. Mr Vegas is also entered in the totesport Ebor but won't run in the handicap.
