Still a maiden, he indicated his turn may well be imminent with a career-best performance at Galway last month.

In truth he was never in a position to win that particular contest, coming from well off the pace to finish six lengths second behind the impressive High Diving.

That was a very competitive 17-runner affair and there was plenty to like about the manner in which the selection saw out the mile and a half.

Francis Flood’s Mr Aussie, another who was in action at Galway, gets the vote in the Snowcream Milk Maiden Hurdle.

He performed solidly enough then, six lengths second to hot-pot My Native Lad. Mr Aussie can confirm placings with third placed Pretty Special, who was struggling to get to grips with stable companion I Will Now when departing the scene at the final flight at Downpatrick last Sunday.

Out In The Open, two lengths second to Fire Finch at Wexford six days ago, holds real prospects of going one better in the Anglo Irish Bank Maiden.

Tingshaw Ring is another with sound claims in the Irish Examiner Handicap Hurdle. She scored with plenty in hand at Ballinrobe on Monday night and a 6lbs mandatory penalty may not be enough to stop her here.

Superdarn, who showed improved form when runner-up to Clara Allen at Cork, is the choice in the O’Neills’ Bar Bumper.
