Hughes runner can Blue Away rivals

PAT HUGHES’ Blue Away has to be the choice to land the two mile Kerry Spring Handicap at Galway this afternoon.

Hughes runner can Blue Away rivals

He landed some decent wagers on this track on Tuesday night and can make light of a mandatory 5lbs penalty.

Blue Away was always travelling sweetly in that contest, cruising to the front two furlongs down.

The five-year-old had the race in safe keeping turning for home and was eased by Fran Berry in the closing stages to beat Golden Triangle by two and a half lengths.

Hughes can also supply the solution to the featured Dawn Milk Handicap Hurdle with another horse already successful at the meeting, Rapid Deployment.

He won the GPT Handicap on Monday evening in fine style, staying on strongly to beat Raise A Storm by two and a half lengths.

The selection went into that test following an interrupted preparation and can be expected to strip fitter on this occasion.

Aidan O’Brien takes the wraps off the Sadler’s Wells newcomer, Wolfe Tone, in the Dawn Hi and Lo Maiden.

This looks a particularly weak event and if in any way useful he should be hard to beat.

Jim Bolger’s Alexander Goldrun gets the vote to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Premier Nursery. She was returning from a break when a close third, under the steadier of 9-7, in another nursery at Tipperary last month and stepping up a further two furlongs should be in her favour.

At Galway tomorrow, Willie Mullins’ Major Burns gets the nap to win the Bumper.

He looked a relentless galloper, when making all to justify favouritism to the tune of 13 lengths at Wexford, and should be well suited by the stiff uphill climb to the finish.

Johnjoe’s Express may defy a 6lbs rise in the weights in the Aghadoe Heights Hotel Handicap Hurdle. The grey scored at Galway on Monday night, by a length from Amplified. He was value for more than that, however, only managing to get a clear run close home.

Feature event is the €80,000 Galway Radisson SAS Hotel Handicap, and Fearn Royal, runner-up behind Eklim in the McDonogh Handicap here on Tuesday, is no more than a token choice in a very difficlt race.

At Wexford tomorrow Bellingham, a creditable third to Colca Canyon and Sky To Sea at Limerick, is fancied to land the Tote Placepot Maiden Hurdle.
