THE promising Light On The Broom can fly home in the opening Templemore Maiden Hurdle at Thurles this afternoon.

Broom can fly home in opener

Ger Stack’s winning pointer has graduated to the racecourse in style and looks well capable of getting through an ordinary contest such as this.

At Wexford last month, on his debut over flights, the selection finished three parts of a length second to Healy’s Pub. A 20-1 shot then, he followed by going off a well-backed market leader to land a bumper at Clonmel earlier this month.

The six-year-old made no mistake, scampering to a decisive five lengths defeat of Native Celts. The form is nothing special but, taking that into consideration, there is no doubt Light On The Broom is progressive and gets the nod.

Paul Lenihan’s Megsie Here is the one to beat in the Devil’s Bit Novice Hurdle. She is also heading in the right direction and could hardly have been more impressive when coasting to a five lengths victory at Clonmel last time. Regal Act, third behind Noel Meade’s hot-pot Rosaker at Fairyhouse on Saturday, appears the main worry!

One of the more interesting contests, on a mundane programme, is the Bumper. This very much centres on Willie Mullins’ Ultimate Accolade. He hasn’t been seen since failing to land odds of 1-2 when third to Be My Belle at Gowran Park in February of last year and his travels in the market will be all important.

Tell Me See, successful four times in-a-row in points of late, is also worth a second glance, but the final vote falls on the once-raced Kings Leader.
