Progressive Caradak takes step up in class in his stride
Michael Kinane set him alight at the two furlong pole and the son of Desert Style exploded away to easily beat Arakan.
“We love this horse”, said Oxx. “He has a terrific temperament, is very sound and cool as ice.
“He was working great and I’m not surprised he’s won three and a half lengths.
“The Desmond Stakes in four weeks could be the next race for him. He could go abroad after that, we will see.”
Aidan O’Brien’s Aussie Rules missed the Group Three Dubai Duty Free Anglesey Stakes with a stone bruise, but the Ballydoyle handler still saddled the winner in the tough Amigoni.
Mark Johnson’s Black Charmer tried to make all, but Amigoni emerged as a real threat with well over a furlong to run.
Amigoni gradually got on terms and was nicely on top for Kieren Fallon through the last hundred yards.
Said O’Brien: “He’s a horse who is improving with his racing and we will keep him busy. He’s in at Goodwood in both the Richmond and Champagne Stakes.”
Katie Walsh partnered her first winner at headquarter, and lost the right to claim 7lbs in the process, when guiding Cloneden to victory in the Thalgo Ladies Derby Handicap.
The 20-year-old, enjoying a 15th success, produced an immaculate performance, easing the Definite Article mare to the front early in the straight. Always prominent Market Watcher soon threatened, but Cloneden was still half a length to the good at the line.
Commented trainer, Michael Halford: “She is very genuine and stays really well. I was a little concerned about the ground, but they have done a great job here and the prize money was good.
“We’ll see how she is, but Galway could be next.”
Jim Bolger’s Heliostatic was the one most punters wanted in the Jumeirah EBF Maiden and they were proved right.
The son of Galileo was always prominent and made the burst for home at the furlong marker. Dermot Weld’s promising newcomer, Marsam, was soon out ofter him, but was always being held.
Said Bolger: “He is bred to get every yard of a mile and a half.
“I am seriously thinking of putting him away for the rest of the season and bringing him back for the Derrinstown.”
Dermot Weld’s Hidden Charm shrugged off top weight to easily take the Dubai Golf Nursery. She found it hard to get an opening, but once it came, Pat Smullen nipped her though in flash to score going away by a cosy two lengths. “She was working well and I thought she’d win”, reported Weld.
Smullen, however, was suspended for a day for careless riding, although indications last night were that he will appeal it.
Declan McDonogh gave Adaala a typically strong drive to wear down Jazz Princess close home in the Kilboy Estate Stakes.
Adalaa is trained by Kevin Prendergast and he completed a double when Chained Emotion led inside the furlong pole to beat Charismatic Cat in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Handicap.
