Strange result looks on the cards for punters
Shay Barry’s mount, Gerry Strange, gets the nap to land the first division of the Fethard Maiden Hurdle.
The six-year-old performed solidly last time and a reproduction of that effort will see him run another big race, against largely modest opposition.
His latest outing was at Limerick just over two weeks ago when he made it hot for well-backed favourite Rob The Five. That winner was backed from evens to 4-6, but only got up on the line to beat the selection by a head.
Admittedly, Rob The Five would probably have scored a trifle more snugly, but for erring at the penultimate obstacle. Nevertheless, it was a promising effort on the part of Gerry Strange.
Biggest worry has to be Michael Halford’s Running On. If repeating his close second to the very useful Rosaker at Fairyhouse in December, he will make short work of these.
But not so good was his subsequent poor fifth of 14 behind Indy Carr at Tramore.
Willie Mullins’ once-raced Warrens Castle gets the nod to provide the solution to the Bumper.
He performed with plenty of promise at Gowran Park back in December (fifth behind Monte Grande) and has been given a nice bit of time to mature.
Coolnahilla gets a hopeful nod to win the Rock Of Cashel Handicap Chase. He was touched off late by Mackinus at Clonmel and may be capable of defying a 5lbs hike.
Paddy’s Girl, who showed improved form to chase home Calling Classy at Limerick last week, could go one better in the second section of the Fethard Maiden Hurdle
