Dun Doire a hopeful Thyestes choice

TONY MARTIN’S worst fears were realised yesterday morning when his ante-post favourite for this afternoon’s Ellen Construction Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran Park, Dun Doire, failed to make the line up and is first reserve.

Dun Doire a hopeful Thyestes choice

Paul Carberry is on standby to partner the rapdily improving gelding and if the seven-year-old gets into the contest I would be inclined to look no further for the likely winner.

Martin’s charge has won his last four races and gone up a whopping 36lbs in total for his troubles. But having started from a very low base anyway, he remains on an attractive mark.

Dun Doire’s latest success came at Fairyhouse on New Year’s Day when turning in a smooth display to beat Brave Eagle a comfortable two lengths.

Should Dun Doire fail to get a run then A New Story would be the hopeful choice in a wide open contest.

He produced another decent performance at Leopardstown last time when a length and the same third behind What A Native and Ross River.

The worry is that three miles on drying ground will prove an insufficient test of stamina for this confirmed stayer.

Kymandjen, touched off in the race a year ago by Numbersixvalverde and who scored first time out this season at Tramore, is the other for this particular short-list.

Emotional Moment and Strangely Brown promise a fascinating tussle in the Grade Three Alo Duffin Memorial Galmoy Hurdle.

They were second and third respectively, separated by a length and a half, behind Rosaker at Leopardstown at Christmas.

Emotional Moment paid the penalty in the closing stages for taking on Solerina at the front and is fancied to confirm the placings.

Black Harry can land the nap in the Bumper. He made a good start when scoring by two lengths at Leopardstown and the form was boosted when runner-up Hairy Molly went in at Naas on Saturday.

McGruders Cross, who has hit the deck in three of his four races over fences, is given a final chance in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Novice Chase.

The ironic thing is that he is actually quite a good jumper, capable of one major blunder. McGruders Cross was travelling like a winner at Naas on his latest appearance, contest won by Arteea from Wild Passion, when getting it all wrong two out.
