One More Round looks the best call

DERMOT WELD, fresh from another reasonably successful Galway, can saddle One More Round to take the Listed King Charlemagne Platinum Stakes at Cork this afternoon.
One More Round looks the best call

The selection may be the oldest horse in the four-runner field, but there’s little doubt he possesses the best form.

Indeed, One More Round showed he is as good as ever in a Group Three at the Curragh last month, finishing a length and a half second go Roger Charlton’s Trade Fair with the subsequent Leopardstown winner, Latino Magic, behind in fifth place.

Biggest danger may well be the largely unexposed John Oxx trained Caradak. He produced huge improvement from his first run to the second when winning a maiden at Galway last week by a street.

The other Listed event on the programme, the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Give Thanks Stakes, is a real puzzle.

The vote falls on Michael Grassick’s My Renee, who rounded of last season by winning a Listed race at Ascot in September.

She is entitled to come on plenty for her initial outing of the current campaign, third to Windermere - Johnny Murtagh stole that contest from the front - and Vinnie Roe at Leopardstown.

Former pointer, Cherry Valley, gets the nap to land the three mile Turtle Island Maiden Hurdle.

Successful in a Bellewstown bumper, she disappointed first time over flights when only fifth to Short And Sweet at Wexford, but two and a quarter miles round that tight track was hardly suitable!

Con Collins’ Soliza keeps climbing up the weights, 13lbs higher for scoring twice, but could again do the business in the Choisir Fillies Handicap.

This tough sort showed the right qualities at the Curragh last time when getting the best of a tight finish with the useful High Reef.

David Wachman’s once-raced Luas Line will prove hard to beat in the Mull Of Kintyre EBF Maiden. She was the medium of encouraging reports, prior to making her debut at Leopardstown. Luas Line only managed seventh of 12 to Silk And Scarlet, but this is a lot easier.
