Windfall set to hit the jackpot
Pat Hughes’ Windfall can land the Connolly’s Bar Maiden Hurdle at Tramore this afternoon. Admittedly, he wouldn’t win much on some of his more recent efforts but does have plenty going for him now.
He performed better than his final placing might suggest at Ballinrobe last time, even if eventually finishing a rather remote fourth in the contest won by Bodakker.
What sways one towards Windfall, however, is the fact he will be very much at home on the fast surface and also has shown his abaility to handle this tight track in the past.
The frustrating Kevin Prendergast trained Coup de Chance is given a final opportunity to do the business in the Baldy Man Maiden. She was outclassed when beaten seven lengths by John Oxx’s Aliyshan at Roscommon last time, but faces nothing of that calibre on this occasion!
At Gowran Park tomorrow there is little doubt the jockey to follow is Michael Kinane, who might well reward his numerous followers with a five-timer.
Kinane has to be fancied to start off on the right foot by piloting Aidan O’Brien’s newcomer Tycoon, a son of Sadler’s Wells, to victory in the EBF Maiden.
O’Brien and Kinane can also team up with Wordsworth to take the first division of the Goresbridge Maiden.
He is certainly one of the Ballydoyle lesser lights, but was far from disgraced, on his seasonal debut, when eighth of 27 in the maiden won by he smart Multazem at the Curragh in April.
Kinane has a leading chance in the featured Listed Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes aboard Moonbi Ridge. The five-year-old made an excellent reappearance at the Curragh last weekend, when three parts of a length second to Livadiya in a competitive handicap.
Other Kinane possibilities are Miss Odlum (Kilkenny Citroen Centre Handicap) and Yukon (Gowran Handicap). Miss Odlum was beaten a short head by Tempter at the Curragh, while Yukon went down by half a length to Cat Five at Tipperary.
Rockstown Boy and The Boys In Green promise a fascinating tussle for the EBF Novice Hurdle at Tralee tomorrow.
The Boys In Green beat Florida Coast in a canter at Navan, while Rockstown Boy was much too good for Mirpour at Gowran Park.
Preference is for Rockstown Boy, even if he would prefer further than this two miles. Mirpour boosted his form when scoring at Punchestown on Thursday night, but Florida Coast performed poorly on the same programme.
