Black Sam Bellamy back on course

BLACK SAM BELLAMY, last of nine at Longchamp previously and absolutely friendless in the market, streaked away with the Group One Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh yesterday.

In doing so he gave Aidan O’Brien a first ever success in this contest and began a memorable afternoon for him in style. Michael Kinane took Black Sam Bellamy to the front well over two furlongs out and this full-brother to Galileo quickly surged eight lengths clear of Highdown.

“He ran really well first time this season and then was a bit disappointing in France,” said O’Brien, with more than a hint of understatement. “I was probably a bit easy on him between the two races. He has been working well and got into a great rhythm today. We will be looking at the Coronation (Epsom) for him, particularly if there is an ease in the ground.”
