Godolphin consider Derby bid with Law

GODOLPHIN’S Rule Of Law could yet take his place in the Budweiser Irish Derby after pleasing connections in a workout yesterday morning.

Godolphin consider Derby bid with Law

The son of Kingmambo was unable to line up for the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot due to a low-grade upper respiratory infection but he has made a quick recovery.

Rule Of Law had previously been a fast-finishing second in the Vodafone Derby having stayed on from the back of the field.

Racing manager Simon Crisford said on the Godolphin website: “He cantered this morning and has made a speedy recovery from the minor infection that he had last week.

“He seems very well in himself and as a result we are still considering the Irish Derby for him.”

Should connections shell out the €95,000 required to supplement the colt for the Irish Classic, which they will have to do by noon today, he will renew rivalry with Epsom hero North Light, who had also beaten him into second place in the totesport Dante Stakes.

The odds-on North Light, a son of Danehill, followed up his Dante win with a stylish length and a quarter victory at Epsom and his jockey Kieren Fallon said yesterday: “He has come out of the Derby very well and seems in good form. A big galloping track like the Curragh should suit him.”
