McManus buys The Fingersmith

THE FINGERSMITH, impressive winner of a bumper on his debut at Galway, has been bought by J P McManus.

Owned and trained then by Andrew McNamara, he will remain in the care of the Croom handler.

The five-year-old was purchased for an undisclosed sum, but it seems reasonable to assume it was in excess of €100,000.

The Fingersmith will be the first horse McNamara has trained for McManus. Commented McNamara: "J P said to me a long time ago that if I ever had good horse to let him know.

"After he won at Galway, Frank Berry (McManus' racing manager) contacted me and the deal was done. Hopefully, he will fulfil the promise of Galway and prove lucky for J P. He won't run in any more bumpers and will have a first outing over hurdles shortly."
