Munro hit with seven-day ban

A RUEFUL Alan Munro left Jockey Club headquarters yesterday vowing that his temper would be kept under control in future after he received a seven-day suspension (July 29-August 4) for his part in a weighing-room brawl with fellow rider Richard Quinn.

Munro hit with seven-day ban

The jockey, who returned from a long stint in the Far East to resume his British riding career at the start of this season, was found guilty under Rule 220(ii) of “violent or improper conduct” after being involved in an altercation with Quinn that left his colleague sporting a black eye and swollen cheekbone.

The fight happened at Newmarket on May 21 and is believed to come about after an incident between horses ridden by the two jockeys at Windsor five days earlier.

While the exact circumstances behind the brawl remain between the two jockeys, Munro - who was not legally represented - said after the hearing that he was keen to put the incident behind him as quickly as possible. “I think it is probably an appropriate penalty in the circumstances,” he said.
