Alickadoo shows plenty of resolution

ALICKADOO is proving a decent money-spinner for the Tom Nagle yard, battling on dourly to win the Barringtons' Hospital Doctors and Nurses Handicap at Limerick yesterday.

Alickadoo shows plenty of resolution

He was left in front when Santa's Son fell three from home and slogged it out for Joey Elliott from that point.

Sea To Sky ranged up as a big danger approaching the home turn, but it was the winner who showed much the greater resolution in the closing stages.

Nagle went to the point-to-point in Dromahane and was represented by his wife, Una. She commented: “He hated the ground, but kept going well and will probably head for another handicap.”

Michael Hourigan's A New Story looked well handicapped on his return sto fences and so it proved, as he took the Garryowen Plate Chase.

Powerfully handled by Nina Carberry, he cantered ahead going to the second last. Ms Carberry asked for a big one here, was rewarded, but A New Story slipped badly at the back of the obstacle.

She picked him up in a flash and then survived another error at the last to easily beat Mamouna Gale.

“That's his first over fences, he should have won one before now”, said Hourigan. “It took a woman to get the best out of him, she rides like a man, there is no difference.”

Beautiful Vision, last seen when cutting little ice in the Wetherbys' Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March, made a successful debut over jumps in the far less exacting Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle.

Always travelling nicely within himself, Beautiful Vision cruised ahead for Shane McGovern early in the straight to beat Victor Victorious unextended.

“He ran his race in the parade ring at Cheltenham, getting completed jazzed up”, reported trainer, Tom Taaffe. “

“He summered well and will now go for a winners of one.”

Philip Goulding (26), who took out a licence to train in January, enjoyed his first success when Nina Carberry, initiating a double, guided Fivestar Alstars to take the ladbrokes.ie Maiden Hurdle.

In front heading to the second last, Fivestars Alstars found plenty to easily beat Contact Dancer.

The five-year-old is the only horse Goulding has for the racecourse, although he also has a handful of pointers in his yard.
