BOHERDUFF LIGHT ended his racing career on the best possible note when winning the Langtons House Derby for the second successive year at Kilkenny on Friday night.

Trained by Owen McKenna for Salvador and Sheila Drohan, Boherduff Light produced one of his famed early paced performances in beating Derwent Parade by 4 lengths in a brilliant 28.76.

The son of He Knows and Travelling Light won 24 of his 42 races and is now join the Dunphys Stud team in Portlaw.

Ian Reilly has won the past two Irish Puppy Derbys and he enters this year’s event next Friday with a very strong team. It includes the Ciaran Burke owned Hee Haws Cantona who won a very exciting €5,000 Tyrur Open Puppy Stake final at Longford on Friday.

In front of a fine crowd Hee Haws Cantona, a son of Honcho Classic and Beaming Heart, prevailed in a very exciting finish, holding off Benjo by a head in 28.48, with Dustin Fox three parts of a length back in third.

Reilly also had a very impressive winner at Harold’s Cross where Droopys Ernie won the Open Puppy 525, a preparatory race for the Puppy Derby which closes to entries tomorrow and starts on Friday.

Ernie displayed top early pace on his way to a 2 length victory over Side Shakira in 28.77. Both Hee Haws Cantona and Droopys Ernie will be members of the Reilly team in the Puppy classic.

Also at the Cross the favourite Staley Vegas won the final of the Open 325 and David Partington’s flying machine is now on course for a clash with Irish Sprint Cup winner Mabels Dilemma on Derby final night at Shelbourne.
