PAUL FLYNN (26), originally from Celbridge in Kildare, rode his first winner in his native country when taking the www.tipperaryraces.ie Handicap Chase on Harry Husyan at Tipperary last night.

Flynn, whose biggest successes cross-channel came aboard Whats Up Boys in the Hennessy at Newbury and the Coral Cup at Cheltenham, gave Gerry Keane’s charge a strong drive to resist the persistent challenge of Urlan Castle over the final two fences.

“I am only home a week and have hardly ever ridden in Ireland”, reported Flynn. “I’ve been in England for ten years, got a bit bored and decided a change is as good as a rest. I am back here on a permanent basis and willing to ride for everyone and anyone.”

The Eoin Griffin trained Mutadarek got a tremendous drive from Kieren Fallon to land the Barbeque At Tipperary on June 20th Handicap.

Fallon coaxed and cajoled the four-year-old into contention in the straight and then powered him to the front in the dying strides to beat Onlyhavetokissme a head.

“My heart was in my mouth”, admitted Griffin. “It is great to have a jockey of that calibre on your side.

“This horse has been schooled over hurdles and jumps well. But we will try and win another race on the flat first.”

Willie Mullins produced a fine training performance with Lasquini Du Moulin, who stripped fit and fancied, after a break of eleven months, to make an impressive debut over fences in the Keeponthesunnyside Beginners Chase. Partnered with typical confidence by Ruby Walsh, the grey jumped brilliantly and had this in safe keeping once easing ahead coming away from the third last.

“He has a fair engine, but wouldn’t want rock-hard ground”, said Walsh. “From day one he was a natural, he was magic tonight.”

Kova Hall redeemed the promise of two decent recent efforts when streaking away with the Railway Handicap.

Pat Smullen had him out and away like a flash from the gates and Kova Hall was eased right down in the closing stages and still crossed the line six lengths to the good.

“He enjoyed being in front and that’s the correct way to ride him”, said Smullen. This was his 25th success of the campaign.

Sister Sox, fresh from her recent win at Navan, followed up with a smooth success in the Enjoy An Evening At Tipperary Handicap.

Produced with impeccable timing by Rory Cleary, Sister Sox swept through late to grab the flattering Fontanally Springs.

“I’ve rattled some quick races into her and she will have a little break now”, said trainer, Michael Halford. “She’s best with a little ease in the ground.”

Christy Roche heaped praise on his newcomer, Charyan, after she had quickened in style in the final furlong to win the Bumper under his son, Padraig. “Her work at home has been unbelievable, she has been working like a mail-train” reported Roche.

“She’s the best I have had since Like-A-Butterfly.”

Kevin Prendergast’s Taqseem, taken at 3-1 in the morning and from 2-1 to 5-4 on track, was a big order in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden.

He fought it out all the way up the straight with the front-running Rol’over Beethoven, but the pair were both mugged by Tadhg O’Shea and Dynamo Dancer in the dying strides.
