Rusheen Hannah shock winner
The bitch, having her first outing of the year, was a 20-1 shot before coursing and confounded the odds in all her courses before beating the fancied Loch Bo Ross, the property of Steve Spillane of Bantry, in the decider.
In her opening course Rusheen Hannah looked impressive when beating Sullane Toya in a straight run up by five lengths. Next time to slips she led all the way to hold on by the narrowest of margins against Carrowkeal Seami.
She then faced the long odds favourite, Torcello, in the semi-final and again got up by the narrowest margin to get the vital opening score.
In the final Rusheen Hannah was smartly away from slips, and although Loch Bo Ross began to close as they neared the hare, she held on by a length to take the 1,250 prize.
In the Jack Ryan Memorial Cup the honours went to Brave Destiny, owned by John Hoys of Kilworth and representing the Fermoy Club. In the final he defeated Jerry Burke’s (Whites Cross) Imgoodainti, which represented her local club, by eight lengths .
Colla Food, owned by Michael O’Donovan and Noel Collins of Skibbereen came out on top in the Derby Trial Stake when he defeated Brickfield King in the decider. The latter had created a major upset in the semi-final when he put out the hot favourite, Dream Boat, but in the final he had no answer to Colla Food’s pace, going under by five lengths. They each had a further score after the opening turn.
There was aso an upset in the final of the Oaks Trial Stake when Laura and Tamzyn Coady’s (Tallow) Baby Fox booked her passage to Clonmel. The Christy Coady trained bitch came up against the John Condon (Conna) owned Whytanyard Sue in the decider and raced away to a three lengths success.
