IT was a day of surprises at the Cork Cup meeting at Blarney yesterday with Rusheen Hannah, the property of Master Brendan and Miss Irene O’Callaghan of Macroom, and trained by Liam O’Callaghan, taking the Cork Cup in surprise fashion.

The bitch, having her first outing of the year, was a 20-1 shot before coursing and confounded the odds in all her courses before beating the fancied Loch Bo Ross, the property of Steve Spillane of Bantry, in the decider.

In her opening course Rusheen Hannah looked impressive when beating Sullane Toya in a straight run up by five lengths. Next time to slips she led all the way to hold on by the narrowest of margins against Carrowkeal Seami.
