Geraghty can guide Greywell to victory

THE rather frustrating Greywell has a leading chance in the Murphys’ Handicap Hurdle at Cork this afternoon.

Geraghty can guide Greywell to victory

Liz Doyle’s six-year-old needs to be produced as late as possible and in Barry Geraghty she has found the right man to carry out such tactics.

Greywell’s latest effort saw him go down by half a length to Healy’s Pub, very much an in-form horse, at Punchestown last month.

That form alone entitles him to serious consideration and the fact he has shown a distinct liking for this track in the past only increases one’s confidence in him to go close.

The market will be the best guide to the prospects of Aidan O’Brien’s newcomer Follow in the EBF Fillies Maiden, but she will have to be a very smart sort to beat Frank Ennis’ once-raced Miss Childrey.

This daughter of Dr Fong made an excllent start when a close third behind Ballydoyle’s Colossus at the Curragh. The form was boosted when fifth placed, Alexander Goldrun, scored subsequently, also at the Curragh.

Laoch Na Mara, down the field in the Irish Lincoln at headquarters last time, looks just about the best proposition in the Dermot Casey Plant Hire Maiden Hurdle.

Previously, he held a healthy advantage when toppling over two out in the conditions hurdle won by Talking Tactics at Leopardstown.

At Cork tomorrow, John Oxx’s Timawari can hardly be opposed in the one mile Conna Maiden.

He is by Sadler’s Wells out of that brilliant racemare, Timarida, and, on breeding, would be at home in any company.

Clearly a backward sort, he gave promise of far better to come on his debut at the Curragh two weeks ago. Starting at 33-1, Timawari finished a neck second behind warm market leader, Dalcassian.

Macs Gildoran gets the nap to beat Kadoun in the featured Murphys’ ’Chase. Willie Mullins’ gelding comes here in fine shape, having taken third to La Landiere in the Cathcart at Cheltenham and second behind Clan Royal in the Topham at Aintree.

Kadoun has been in cracking form of late, scoring unextended by 25 lengths at Leopardstown on his latest appearance. All the evidence, however, suggests he needs the ground soft, at least, to produce his best.

Tommy Carberry’s Mr Murchan gets the nod to retrieve previous losses in the Munster Waste Management Maiden Hurdle.

He’s certainly not a candidate for anything like the maximum, but has been beaten by two useful sorts of late in Nobody Told Me (Naas) and Dantes Reef (Down Royal).

Colonel Monroe gets the nod to provide the solution to the Grade Three AIB Corporate Banking Festival Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse tomorrow.

A tough and proven timber-topper, Edward O’Grady’s charge warmed up for this with a spin behind Beef Or Salmon on the level at the Curragh.

Alexander Milenium, a top-class bumper horse, but something of a failure when tried over fences, may land the Fairyhouse Sunday Market Maiden Hurdle.
